Located in the South Island city of Dunedin, Mike Turfus Motors provides good quality used motor vehicles throughout New Zealand. Dedicated to customer service and satisfaction, please take a moment to read our most frequently asked questions regarding buying a used vehicle online.
Can I collect my vehicle directly from you?
Yes. We are located in Dunedin city in the South Island and are happy for you to collect your vehicle directly from our yard.
I live in the North Island; can I purchase a car and have it sent to me?
Yes. We are happy to advise you of our preferred nationwide car freighting company, or you can choose your own carrier.
Who pays for freighting my car?
If you are unable to collect the car directly from our yard, it is your responsibility and cost to arrange for someone else, or a company, to collect the vehicle on your behalf. We strongly suggest you check with your insurance company regarding insurance coverage while your vehicle is in transit to you.
Are there any hidden charges when buying a car from you online?
When you purchase a vehicle from us online, it is the same as if you were walking around our dealership yard in Dunedin. If you have any questions regarding vehicle prices please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to advise accordingly.
Does the Consumer Guarantees Act apply if I purchase a vehicle online from you?
Yes. The Consumer Guarantees Act applies to any seller that is a motor vehicle trader.

Can I return my used car if something happens?
When you purchase from us you are dealing with a reputable New Zealand car dealership, and as such, if you buy a second-hand car from a dealer in New Zealand then you have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act, Fair Trading Act and Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal.
What are the advantages of buying from a dealer instead of privately?
Under the Motor Vehicle Sales Act (MVSA) all car dealers must be registered. Any person who holds themselves out as being in the business of motor vehicle trading, or who sells more than six vehicles or imports more than three vehicles within a twelve-month period, is considered under the law to be a motor vehicle trader and must be registered (unless they can show the sales or importations were not done for gain). This includes car fairs, car consultants, car auctioneers, and online car sales services.
A registered motor vehicle trader will guarantee consumers "good title" to a car. This means they can legally sell the car and you will not be liable for any debts hanging over it, unless those debts were specifically pointed out to you in writing. This protection does not apply if you buy privately.
Every vehicle sold by a trader must have a warrant of fitness less than one month old.
What is a Supplier Information Notice (SIN)?
As a dealer, we are required to attach to every motor vehicle displayed for sale a "supplier information notice" (SIN). If you buy the car, you must be given a copy of the SIN.
What is the MVDT?
The MVDT is the Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal and is run by the Department of Courts. The MVDT can hear claims up to $50,000 (or more if both the parties agree) and can order any of the remedies available under the Consumer Guarantees Act, Fair Trading Act, or the Sale of Goods Act.
